Frequently Asked Questions

The SMU Associate Alumni network brings together individuals who have participated in selected continuing education and professional development programmes offered by SMU. It reflects SMU’s commitment to lifelong learning and recognises the value of staying connected beyond formal degree programmes.

Associate Alumni form part of a wider SMU community made up of learners, professionals, alumni, and partners who continue to engage with the University in meaningful ways. Through this network, Associate Alumni can stay connected with SMU, access selected benefits and opportunities, and contribute to a vibrant ecosystem that supports learning, collaboration, and shared growth across the University community.

Individuals who have participated in selected programmes of study offered by SMU’s continuing education programmes, such as SMU Executive Development, from April 2022 onwards, would qualify to be an Associate Alumnus.

Eligible individuals will receive an invitation from SMU Executive Development (ExD) after completing selected programmes.

To register, simply follow the instructions in the invitation and submit the required details. Once your eligibility is verified, the Office of Alumni Relations will send you a welcome email to confirm your Associate Alumni status.

Whereas an SMU alumnus is one who has graduated from SMU with either an undergraduate or postgraduate degree, an associate alumnus is one who has successfully completed a selected continuing education programme (see Point 2 above).
