Navigating the digital landscape of AI and ML in Indonesia

Published on 19 March 2026

The digital landscape is shifting rapidly, and we gathered in Jakarta at SMU International Indonesia to discuss how leaders can navigate this change strategically and sustainably.

Conducted in Bahasa, we hosted "π˜”π˜’π˜΄π˜’ π˜‹π˜¦π˜±π˜’π˜― 𝘈𝘐/π˜”π˜“ π˜₯π˜ͺ 𝘐𝘯π˜₯𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴π˜ͺ𝘒", an evening of professional enrichment and high-level networking for our community of tech leaders in Indonesia.

Moderated by Programme Director Dr Faisal Aman, together with our guest speakers Mr. Dian Martin, Chairman of the Indonesian AI Association, and Dr. Sabam Hutajulu Ph.D, Board Member at Indonet & AirAsia Indonesia, our discussion focused on how digital technology, when powered by AI and Machine Learning, is no longer just a tool.

It becomes an engine of modern business operations to remain competitive in the Indonesian markets.

Other key takeaways include:

Strategic Adoption: Amidst the emergence of new technologies, leaders should be selective and systematically review the fit and alignment of these tools to the organisational long -term business goals in a phased and timely manner.

Local Impact: The speakers highlighted the readiness of Indonesian organisations to embrace AI/ML and cautioned against a prevailing focus on rapid and near-term returns.

Talent Development: While there is a critical need to enhance team skill sets to maintain a competitive edge, established leaders should be intentional in developing the next generation of leaders by guiding them ethically and providing them the opportunities and space to lead.

We also had theΒ fantastic opportunity to connect with SMU’s Indonesia inaugural batch of our Strategic Leadership with AI and ML programme and other pioneering professionals in the field.
