EXCEL Leadership Programme: Transforming Leadership with Inclusivity
EXCEL Leadership Programme
Mr Ali Mambo Mohammed
Head of Production & Gas, Geregu Power PLC
My role as the Head of Production & Gas at Geregu Power PLC entailed managing and supervising the workforce responsible for powering Nigeria’s national grid. Given our service-level contract with Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC, maintaining peak performance and efficiency was imperative to meet national energy demands.
Entrusted with this weighty responsibility, my executive management sought an executive leadership programme to sharpen the skills of our company’s leaders. Having previously experienced the transformative impact of SMU’s programme firsthand, executive management was impressed by the quality and delivery. The choice was clear and they decided to enrol myself and a select few leaders in the Excel Leadership Programme.
The programme equipped us with tools to enhance performance and prepare us for expanded leadership roles. Through comprehensive training, with elements like the HOGAN psychometric assessment and practical exercises, it challenged my existing mindset and style of leadership. By uncovering and addressing my preconceived biases, it reshaped my approach to leadership and employee management. I became more cognisant of my biases surrounding cultural and personal beliefs and learnt to be more inclusive and flexible to create a more effective, harmonious work environment.
Overall, it was awesome and fulfilling to be able to work on being a better leader by applying what I have learnt from the programme.
